Parks & Recreation Department
The Parks and Recreation Division has several recreational parks throughout the city, and manages the following facilities: Stafford Park, Dunham Park, Benhoff Park, Southgate U.S.A. Park, Home Street Park, and D.A.R.E. Park. All of the City's parks contain playground equipment, picnic and play areas and benches. The City also maintains nine ball fields and three soccer fields throughout the spring, summer and fall months. In addition, the Parks Division is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of six pavilions, four tennis courts and outdoor basketball courts.
Stafford Recreation Center is located centrally in Maple Heights and is utilized by thousands of residents each year. The park boasts five ball diamonds, tennis courts, a large playground area, three outdoor pavilions, and plenty of parking. Two outdoor basketball courts are also available for residents use, which are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Stafford Park is also home to the Maple Heights Boys Baseball league, providing tee ball and baseball leagues for boys and girls ages 4-16 years of age. Adult Men's, Women's, and Coed Softball programs are offered from April through October. For more information on Adult Softball, click here. The High School and JV programs utilize the city ball diamonds for their home games for the fast-pitch softball and baseball programs.
Dunham Recreation Center is located in the western portion of Maple Heights, with a lighted ball diamond, tennis courts, and picnic and playground area which is actively utilized by residents from spring through fall. Dunham Park has a large pavilion as well, which is home to the senior "Music in the Park" events which are held on Tuesday evenings during the summer.
The Recreation Department has partnered with the city schools to offer spring and fall soccer, as well as a winter basketball program for boys and girls 8-12 years of age. Youth spring soccer registration for the 2007 season is now underway for children ages 3-12. Registration cost is $20 per child, and applications are accepted at the Maple Heights Senior Center weekdays from 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM. Games are played at Dunham School one weeknight and one Saturday from mid-April through the end of May. Deadline to register is Friday, March 30.
With great appreciation to the Maple Heights School Board, the City of Maple Heights is able to offer a “Learn-to-Swim” Program for our residents. Maple Heights High School’s beautiful swimming pool offers our Lean-to-Swim Program in partnership with the local YMCA, City Schools, and Recreation Department. Learn-to-Swim registration takes place in late May/early June, with classes available from mid-June through mid-July. In addition, a winter bowling program has a loyal following every season, with registrations taking place in October.
Several large outdoor pavilions are available for residents use at Stafford and Dunham parks. Reservations are accepted on March 1 for the upcoming year. The basketball courts are also available for rent throughout the summer for hoop-it-up or church tournaments. Please contact the Recreation Department at 216-663-0552 for further information on its programs or the availability of pavilions during the year.
