The City of Maple Heights Building Department is located on the first floor of the Maple Heights City Hall Building. The Department can be reached at 216-663-4094 between 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Thursday. The Building Department is CLOSED from 12:00pm – 1:00pm Monday-Thursday and all day Friday.
The owner and or occupants are responsible for maintaining clean, sanitary and safe properties. They must be kept weather tight and the exterior of all structures must be kept free from decay or deterioration. Exterior surfaces must be kept clean, repaired and painted or resurfaced when necessary. Yards must be kept clean, neat and attractive at all times.
All contractors must be registered with The City of Maple Heights Building Department and obtain a permit prior to doing any work. For cost and other information contact the Building Department.
Commercial or business vehicle parking, outdoors, is not permitted in residential areas.
Unlicensed or seldom moved vehicles are not permitted to be parked in the open at a residence or most businesses. Vehicles MUST be parked only on a paved surface.

A 24 Hour minimum
notice for ALL inspections is required.

Building Department Permit Requirements
Home owners thinking about remodeling their home or adding other improvements, such as decks, spas or retaining walls, many times have a number of questions about building permits. This information is designed to give homeowners basic knowledge of when construction permits and other approvals are required by the city of Maple Heights. It also answers some of the most frequently asked questions and offers tips from the city. Since each construction project is unique, we invite you to call the Building Department, (216) 663-4094, for answers to your specific questions.
Requirements are very strict with the height not exceeding 6' in most cases. Fence permits are required before erection. If you are not sure of your property lines, contact a Land Surveyor prior to purchasing fence. Obtain a permit from the Building Department prior to installation.
All homeowners are required to maintain tree lawn, front yard and back yard. Grass/weeds should not exceed 5 inches.
Garage Sale Permit
City permit is required. Signs are NOT ALLOWED on tree lawns or utility poles within the City.
The follow are the requirements for Real Estate/Fore Sale/Rent Signs
- 6 square feet maximum
- 1 sign per lot
- Must be 10 feet from lot.
Rubbish receptacles must be placed at the curb AFTER, BUT NOT BEFORE, 6:00 PM, of the day prior to collection and before 7:00 am on collection day. Store rubbish cans or receptacles at least 25' from any house.

The follow are the requirements for Sheds:
- 200 Square Feet Maximum.
- Maximum 10 feet high (from surface of concrete pad).
- Must be secured to a 4” concrete pad (minimum).
- Must be 3 feet off property line.
